TDC reverses appointments by Akufo-Addo’s government

TDC reverses appointments by Akufo-Addo’s government

The TDC Ghana Limited, based on the instructions of the Chief of Staff at the presidency, has reversed some appointments and promotions done by the previous management.

Mr. Courage Makafui Nunekpeku, the Managing Director of TDC, revealing this, said: “We have followed the instructions of the Chief of Staff by reversing some of the appointments and promotions that were hurriedly done because they were not done on merit.”

Mr. Nunekpeku, speaking at a media engagement, said they were just done because of their familiarity or their closeness to the higher officials.

He added that some of the processes were put aside in terms of the company’s policies, labour law and human resource (HR) policies, which were ignored.

“I decided that we go through the right way and establish the structures properly while making sure that those who merit the positions get it,” he said.

According to him, management picked some of the departments, published the vacancies, and conducted proper interviews to fill the positions.

“There were some other sections that were just doing things anyhow, but we have been able to streamline all and will continue to put the reforms in place,” he stressed.

He said management was working to turn things around, indicating that, fortunately, he has a very supportive management staff, very creative and innovative, who are geared up to transform and reform TDC for the best, which will be evident in the coming years.

Mr. Nunekpeku further reiterated that several investigations would take place that would not distract them from the core business he has been appointed to do, adding that they have set out clearly what they want to do for the year with projects earmarked and ready.

According to him, the Kpone Affordable Housing awarded to some contractors has been cancelled for some reasons, adding that the TDC has engaged the contractors and some have resumed work.

He said: “When we came, there were just some foundations dug, and that is one of the projects. We have done some amendments to the drawings and added some few things, and by the end of the project, 800 flats will be available.”

Mr. Nunekpeku further noted that the TDC Club House has become a totally abandoned place, with the structure now caved in and in a very bad state.

Touching on TDC acquisition lands, he disclosed that the lands were exhausted, with almost every commercial land sold out, stressing that nothing would stop the investigation or audit on the lands unless the sector minister or the president stopped it.

“We will continue to do the audit and make sure that people account for their stewardship. You cannot be the managing director that presides over the sales of lands and properties and think that you should not be called to account,” Mr. Nunekpeku said.
