The 1st Runner-Up of Miss Kakube 2024, Ms. Gifty Dery, has extended a generous hand to 20 underprivileged students in the Nandom Traditional Area by donating essential learning materials.

The donation ceremony was held on Friday, April 11, 2025, at the St. Andrews Junior High School in Nandom.

Her support included 12 school uniforms, 60 exercise books, and two mathematics sets. Several students received brand new school uniforms, which were met with excitement and heartfelt appreciation.

The ceremony was attended by the Paramount Queen Mother of the Nandom Traditional Area, along with Queen Mothers from Ko, Goziiri, and Dabagteng. Moved by the act of kindness, the Queen Mother of Dabagteng pledged to provide two additional school uniforms to further assist two of the beneficiaries.

Other notable attendees included the Nandom branch manager of the Agricultural Development Bank (ADB), the Director of Zebra Orphanage, and the Assembly Member for the Nandom West Electoral Area. Both the orphanage director and the assemblyman donated undisclosed amounts to Ms. Dery in support of her philanthropic initiative. Hon. Callistus Kog also contributed an undisclosed cash donation to encourage her commitment to community service.

Remarkably, Ms. Dery made the donations without any external financial backing. Widely recognized for her artistic talent, she was named Best Music Artiste at the 2024 Lawra Kobine Festival and also won the Best Artiste title at the Nandom Kakube Music Awards. That same year, she led the Domange Bewaa Troupe to first place at the Kakube Festival, showcasing her leadership and cultural influence.

Discovered in 2017 by her manager, Mr. Daaro Jacob, Ms. Dery continues to serve as a shining example and role model for young people, especially girls, in the Nandom Traditional Area. Her donation not only brought joy to students but also emphasized the power of youth-led community empowerment and the role of education in local development.

The Kakube Festival, celebrated annually on the last weekend of November, remains a vibrant expression of culture and unity among the people of Nandom. Ms. Dery’s gesture during this season of renewal has added a fresh layer of meaning to the festival’s spirit of giving and togetherness.
