Dan Botwe advocates sustained funding for education

Former Member of Parliament for the Okere Constituency, Dan Botwe, says the nation’s drive for inclusive education should be a shared responsibility.

He stated that the few privileged in society must endeavour to contribute in their own small ways to support the underprivileged in climbing the academic ladder.

Speaking at a durbar of chiefs and people of Okere at Adukrom — organised to express his gratitude for the opportunity to serve as MP for 16 years — Mr Botwe recounted the numerous educational interventions he facilitated for thousands of his constituents and emphasised the need to continue supporting future generations.

As part of his continued contribution to the development of Okere, Mr Dan Botwe donated an amount of GHS 350,000 to the Okere Community Educational Fund. The donation was made through the Master Darko Foundation, a foundation established in honour of his late father.

The beneficiary towns include Abiriw, Dawu, Awukugua, Adukrom, Apiredi, Aseseeso, and Abonse. Each town will receive a GHS 50,000 donation towards its community educational fund.

The community educational fund will be managed by members of the clergy, traditional leaders (Nananom), and opinion leaders in the various communities.

Mr Botwe added that the funds will be disbursed based on need, depending on the circumstances of the applicants.

“I say all the time that I am the luckiest MP in the fourth Republic. I have enjoyed the full cooperation from the Chiefs, clergy, opinion leaders and even my political opponents. I have retired from Parliament, but my commitment towards the development of Okere is unflinching. I’m donating to this community educational fund as a part of my thank you to Okere,” Dan Botwe explained.

He called on Nananoon and the people of Okere to extend the support they gave him to the New Member of Parliament Daniel Kenneth Nana Addo.

“Now you have two Members of Parliament, while your elected MP works for you in Parliament, I will also be home following up on development projects in the Constituency,” he added.

Nifahene of Akuapem and Adukromhene Osuodumgya Otutu Ababio, on his part, charged the youth to stay away from drug abuse and pay attention to their education.

He says, the investment in education at Okere would not yield anything beneficial if the young people do not make a conscious effort to learn.

He called on all stakeholders to prioritize the development of Okere regardless of their political ideology.
