Meet Dr Francis Ohemeng, the outstanding Central Regional Administrator of NAS

On April 13, 2025, the International Kingdom University (Florida) honored outstanding individuals for their inspiring lives, exemplary leadership, and enormous contributions to their societies and communities.

The well-attended event, hosted at the Executive Community Church, Kasoa Opeikuma Junction, brought together leading decision-makers, dignitaries, and sympathizers from all walks of life.

Among the honorees was Francis Ohemeng, who received an Honorary Doctorate in Executive Leadership.

Francis Ohemeng’s evolution into a transformational and servant leader — culminating in his esteemed role as the Central Regional Administrator of the National Ambulance Service — was not a walk in the park. It has taken grit, resilience, and unwavering faith in God** to reach this point.

Born in Agona Asamang in the Ashanti Region to an accountant father, Hanson Osei Nyantakyi, and a seamstress mother, Patience Boitey, he experienced poverty firsthand, especially after his father lost his job. His mother’s unstable income at the time plunged the family into hardship.

Fortunately, the values of the extended family system — particularly the communal approach to child-rearing—led his aunt, Mercy Yeboah, to relocate him to Ashanti Mampong for better opportunities.

Adjusting to the new community was challenging. He often felt mistreated, as his aunt, a strict teacher and devout Presbyterian, was known for her disciplinarian ways. This upbringing, combined with his traditional roots and involvement with the Seventh-Day Adventist Church, shaped him into the respected man he is today.

Living with a teacher not only ignited his passion for education but also fueled his desire for independence and the ability to support his family. He passed his Common Entrance Examination, gained admission to St. Andrews Experimental Junior Secondary School in Ashanti Mampong, and later attended Amaniampong Senior Secondary School, where he excelled. He was subsequently transferred to Kumasi High School to complete his secondary education.

After graduating with impressive grades, he was determined to stand on his own. He secured a job with a private cocoa produce-buying company, which, though financially unstable, allowed him to support himself and his family.

As a dreamer, respectful, and humble young man, he was recommended for recruitment into the Ghana National Fire Service, where he consistently stood out. Through the recommendation of a superior whom he served diligently, he was selected to join the National Ambulance Service during its formative stages, which sought only the best Fire Service personnel.

His reputation for excellence followed him to the National Ambulance Service, making him a natural choice for leadership roles in his workplace, church, and community.

As one of the earliest trained EMTs in Ghana and West Africa, Francis Ohemeng played a historic role in establishing and managing several ambulance stations, including:

– Ashanti Mampong Ambulance Station (as the pioneer in charge),

– Ashanti Mamponteng Ambulance Station (as second-in-command),

– Ashanti Bekwai Ambulance Station, and

– Ashanti Regional Dispatch Center.

As Regional Administrator, his accessibility, humility, and hands-on approach have brought landmark achievements to the Central Region’s Ambulance Service.

When he assumed office, only two ambulances were operational despite the high demand for services. Through determination, he transformed the region’s capacity, increasing the fleet to 26 ambulances in record time. He also played a pivotal role in establishing a Regional Dispatch Center.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, he has mentored countless individuals, helping them find purpose and direction. He has empowered many economically, academically, and socially, building an enduring legacy of goodwill.

Francis embodies selfless service, living out the biblical principle of Matthew 10:8: “Freely you have received, freely give.” His life reflects the universal value of generosity (Dana) found in many belief systems.

He is not only a guiding light but also a pillar in his profession and community. Reliable sources indicate he will soon be enstooled as a Sub-Chief of his hometown, Agona Asamang — a well-deserved honor.

A devoted husband and father of two (a boy and a girl), he lives with no regrets, wishing only for more time to continue making an impact.

Academic Achievements:

– Master’s in Accounting and Finance (KNUST)

– Bachelor’s in Business Administration (Accounting) (Valley View University)

– HND in Accountancy (Sunyani Technical University)

– Final-level candidate at the Institute of Chartered Accountants, Ghana (ICAG)

He attributes his success to God’s grace, reflecting on how far he has come from his struggles.

This honorary doctorate is a fitting recognition for a man who dedicates his life to uplifting others.
