You can find 101 reasons to impeach Mahama but… — Ahiagbah

You can find 101 reasons to impeach Mahama but — Ahiagbah

The National Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Richard Ahiagbah, says there are several grounds on which President John Dramani Mahama could be impeached.

He, however, noted that although the grounds for impeachment may be many, such processes must be approached with caution and not pursued merely for convenience.

“Now you can find 101 reasons why President Mahama should be impeached. You can do that. But is it something we should engage in? No,” he said while speaking on Accra-based Channel One TV on Saturday, April 19.

His comments follow reports that three separate petitions have been submitted to the Council of State seeking the removal of Chief Justice Gertrude Esaaba Torkornoo in accordance with Article 146(6) of the 1992 Constitution.

Reacting to the development, Ahiagbah alleged that the President has an ulterior motive behind the petitions seeking the Chief Justice’s removal.

According to him, President Mahama wants the Chief Justice out of office so he can replace her with a preferred candidate who will facilitate the dismissal of the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Jean Mensa, and her deputy, Bossman Asare.

The NPP spokesperson claimed that the President received petitions seeking the removal of the EC bosses long before the ones against the Chief Justice.

He emphasized that the only reason those earlier petitions have not been acted upon is because they must first be forwarded to the Chief Justice, who is constitutionally mandated to determine whether there is a prima facie case before a committee can be set up.
