Prosper Ogum urges Kotoko players to stay mentally strong for GPL run-in

Asante Kotoko head coach Prosper Narteh Ogum has called on his players to sharpen their mental focus as the Ghana Premier League nears its final stretch.

The Porcupine Warriors were sitting comfortably at the top of the table just a few weeks ago, but recent results have knocked them off the summit. A 1-1 draw with Bechem United was followed by a humbling 3-0 loss to Accra Lions on Matchday 22—Kotoko’s heaviest defeat of the season.

In the aftermath of that loss, Ogum stressed the importance of psychological resilience in what promises to be a tense and competitive finish to the campaign.

“This game is full of surprises. We need to regroup mentally. Right now, our biggest challenge is mental toughness,” Ogum said. “As a coach, I know how to cope, but what about the players? If a player allows negativity to creep in during his own time, how can he translate what we’ve worked on tactically into the game? With seven matches left, we need to get our mindset right.”

The Lions were in inspired form against Kotoko, with Gildas Jacob, Yao Sopkoli, and David Akintunde all finding the net in a dominant display. Kotoko, now third with 47 points, will look to bounce back quickly when they face second-placed Nations FC in a high-stakes clash.

Ogum’s rallying call is clear: mental strength will be the difference-maker in the title race.
