Joseph Agyekum got 100 precent of the votes
The President’s nominee for the District Chief Executive position for Ellembelle in the Western region, Joseph Agyekum, has been endorsed by the 52 assembly members in the area.
In an election conducted and supervised by the officials of Ellembelle District Electoral Commission on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, Joseph Agyekum secured all the votes cast, representing a unanimous 100 percent endorsement by the assembly members.
This is the first time a president’s nominee has secured 100 percent in Ellembelle district since the inception of the district.
Joseph Agyekum is the current Constituency Secretary of the National Democratic Congress at Ellembelle.
He is a teacher and a businessman.
In his acceptance speech, Joseph Agyekum expressed his heartfelt gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama for giving him the opportunity to serve the people of Ellembelle district.
He also commended the assembly members for reposing trust in him.
“Let me use this opportunity to thank our able assembly members for reposing confidence in me and I also thank all members and executives of NDC for their support”, he said.
He promised to serve the district diligently and support President John Mahama’s vision to drive development in the Ellembelle district.
He also pledged his commitment to work closely with the assembly members and opinion leaders in the district.
He called on the people of Ellembelle district to cooperate with him saying “I need every one in our district support. Let us remain in peace and unity and I cannot fail the good people of Ellembelle”.
He further thanked the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, and pledged to work with the MP to drive development in the area.
Presiding Member, Charles Kwesi charged the DCE to serve with humility and always think about the development agenda of the district.
He pledged to work tirelessly with the DCE to ensure the smooth running of the assembly.
He took the opportunity to swear-in the new government appointees of the assembly on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama and urged them to support the president’s policies in the district.
The Acting President of Eastern Nzema Traditional Council, Nana Bonya Kofi VI, who is also the chief of Basake, commended the assembly members for overwhelmingly endorsing Joseph Agyekum as the Ellembelle DCE.
He described the endorsement as unprecedented and historic stating “this is the first time a president’s nominee has received such an endorsement, it has never happened in our district before”.
“I’m very excited today and I can see that everybody is happy, especially the assembly members, and I believe you will support our DCE to succeed”, he stated.
He appealed to all chiefs and pastors of the district to rally behind the DCE to succeed.
Joseph Agyekum was nominated by President John Dramani Mahama on Friday, April 4, 2025.
The event was held at Nkroful, the district capital of Ellembelle and present were the Member of Parliament (MP) for Evalue-Ajomoro Gwira, Kofi Arko Nokoe, Nzema East MCE, Herbert Kuah Dickson, Jomoro MCE nominee, Benedict Boadi, Ellembelle District Police command, state security agencies, the media among others.
