Ruben Amorim is “very fond” of Antoine Semenyo- David Ornstein

Transfer expert David Ornstein has confirmed that Manchester United manager, Ruben Amorim is a huge fan of Ghanaian international and Bournemouth talisman Antoine Semenyo heading into the 2025 Summer transfer window.

The Ghana international has enjoyed a brilliant season and is one of the Cherries’ standout performers this season.

The Black Stars striker has been at the heart of Bournemouth’s impressive season under Spanish manager Andoni Iraola with the Cherries currently 8th in the Premier League table, only seven points off Champions League qualification.

Semenyo’s low driven effort against Fulham was his 17th overall Premier League strike since completing a €10.3m move from Bristol City to Bournemouth in 2023. The Ghanaian international has returned nine goals and six assists in all competitions for Bournemouth, demonstrating a versatile skillset as Iraola has utilised Semenyo on either wing with equal effectiveness.

But it’s off the ball where the 25-year-old is even more of standout player, ranking in the 98th percentile for blocks, 97th for aerial duels, 82nd for clearances and 76th for tackles amongst wingers in Europe’s top five leagues. And it’s this relentless work rate which will have undoubtedly put top-tier clubs like Liverpool Arsenal and Manchester United who demands high levels of defensive output from their wide players – on red-alert over the prospect of adding Semenyo to their squad.

However the 44-year old journalist has revealed that, Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim is a big admirer of the Bournemouth winger, which explains why United are believed to have “opened talks” with their Premier League competitor over a potential swoop.

“There is Antoine Semenyo. What a season he had had. He is a player that Manchester manager Rubin Amorin is very fond of”  David Ornstein via NBC Sports Soccer.

The Athletic reporter contends Bournemouth are set to demand a “club record” for Semenyo should they let their prized asset leave this summer. The south coast club is expected to demand more than the £65 million received for Dominic Solanke.

“They would be looking to sell him for fee in excess what they got for Dominic Solanke which was of 65m pounds because there is no release clause. They would want a club record.”

Semenyo, however, looks an ideal candidate to take on either of the wing-back roles, offering a dramatic improvement from an attacking perspective on the current cohort of options at Old Trafford.

With financial constraints looming at Old Trafford, United may need to offload players before making a formal approach, especially with interest also in Wolves’ Matheus Cunha, who has a £62.5 million clause.
