The leaders at the presser
The Traditional Authorities and youth of Korle Klottey have appealed to President John Dramani Mahama to consider Muhammed Bashiru Nii Narh Alema Dowuona (Alhaji Bash) as the next Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the Korle Klottey Municipal Assembly.
During a press briefing at the forecourt of the Osu Mantse Palace, the group voiced their grievances regarding the MMDCE nominations, emphasizing the need for a native royal to be appointed to the position. Stephen Nii Noi Dowuona, spokesperson for the Concerned Youth of Korle Klottey, appealed to the President to appoint Alhaji Bash, citing his loyalty and contributions to the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
A Unifier and Financier
Nii Noi Dowuona stated that appointing Alhaji Bash would motivate the youth to contribute meaningfully and remain loyal to the NDC, given his longstanding support for both the party and individuals. He revealed that in 2020, Alhaji Bash was chosen as the constituency’s campaign manager due to his ability to unite feuding factions. During the campaign launch, he personally donated $1,000 and later spent hundreds of thousands of Ghana cedis to fund activities and reconcile disputes.
His efforts earned him a popular slogan in the constituency: “Bash Oooo Bash!” to which supporters responded, “Unity Ooo Unity!”—a testament to his role in securing an 8,000+ vote margin for the NDC.
Grassroots Mobilization and Financial Support
Alhaji Bash formed campaign teams in every ward, provided NDC T-shirts, and remitted weekly stipends from his own pocket. When funds for polling agents were delayed during the 2020 elections, he stepped in to finance the entire exercise after an emergency meeting involving figures like Hon. Zanetor Agyeman Rawlings and Alfred Ato Gaisie.
He also actively supported voter registration exercises, disbursing tens of thousands of cedis to activists, assembly members, and the Women’s Caucus to mobilize new voters.
Political Experience and Leadership
Nii Noi Dowuona outlined Alhaji Bash’s extensive political career:
Began as a Cell Secretary in Tudu Electoral Area.
Served as Deputy Youth Organizer (trained by the late Tei Okunnor).
Acted as a liaison officer between the constituency and national executives during the 1992 elections.
Elected Constituency Chairman (2014–2018), securing and furnishing the current NDC office with his own funds.
Served as a Government Appointee and Sub-Metro Chairman (2016–2017).
Academic Qualifications
Alhaji Bash holds:
A Master’s in Logistics Management (Coventry University, UK).
A Postgraduate Diploma in Entrepreneurship (University of Cape Coast).
A Bachelor’s Degree (Wisconsin University College).
A Call to Reward Loyalty
Nii Noi Dowuona questioned why Alhaji Bash’s decades of service, generosity, and dedication should go unrewarded, especially amid rumors of another candidate being favored.
“If all these works, benevolence, and dedication to the party are not rewarded, then what is the use of being loyal?” he asked. “Alhaji Bash has deliberately avoided boasting about his charity—his faith teaches humility—but we, the youth and Traditional Authorities, are speaking up for him.”
The group urged the appointing authorities to prioritize loyalty and merit in selecting the next MCE for Korle Klottey.
