“Sports budget woefully inadequate” – Ashaiman MP Ernest Norgbey

Honorable Ernest Norgbey, the Chairman of the Youth and Sports Committee, has expressed his dissatisfaction with the recent budget allocation for sports development in Ghana.

On Thursday, March 27, the Parliament of Ghana approved the allocation of GHS 65,899,456 for the services of the Ministry of Sports and Recreation for the year ending 31 December 2025.

Speaking exclusively to EIB sports, the Member of Parliament for Ashaiman Constituency raised concerns about its adequacy in meeting the needs of the sport’s sector.

“As the chairman of the sports committee what I am not happy about is the 65 million Ghana cedis that was given to the ministry of sports. The totality of amount of money that is given to the Minstry is woefully inadequate for our sports because I believe sports brings us together so no matter the situation we need to make substantial budgetary allocation to the ministry so that they will keep us going” he said.

According to Honorable Ernest Norgbey, Finance Minister Ato Forson has pledged to increase the budget allocation for sports in future budgets, offering hope for enhanced support for the sector’s development.

“When I was presenting the budget to the floor of the house I made those comments and concerns about the estimates to the minster of finance. He has promised that in the subsequent budgets he will look into it and see how best we can handle it because Ghana is driven by the youth and youth is about sports so he promised that he will do a lot of consultations and bring up something that is more appreciable” he added.
