A part of the National Cathedral fence has collapsed following heavy rains on Wednesday, April 23, 2025.

A video circulating on social media shows sections of the wooden fence on the ground, with a few individuals attempting to repair the damage.

The project, initiated by former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in 2017, has been one of the most debated public projects in the country.

Critics have questioned the project’s cost, relevance and management.

The Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has reiterated the government’s position, stating that it will no longer allocate funds for the project.

“This government will not commit additional public funds to the National Cathedral project.

“Estimates suggest completing the Cathedral would require an additional $400 million. At a time when Ghanaians are demanding better roads, schools, and hospitals, we cannot justify such an expenditure on what is essentially a non-priority project,” he noted.
