The former National Signals Bureau Chief, Kwabena Adu-Boahen, and his wife have filed a defamation lawsuit against Attorney General Dr Dominic Akuritinga Ayine, following allegations made during a press conference held on March 24, 2025.

During the press conference, Dr Ayine accused the couple of engaging in a number of criminal activities and financial misconduct.

According to the plaintiffs, the accusations were baseless, damaging, and made without any legal or factual justification.

The lawsuit stems from these comments, which the Adu-Boahens claim have tarnished their reputation and were made without supporting evidence.

In their writ, the Adu-Boahens are seeking the following reliefs from the court: an award of exemplary and punitive damages for the publication and/or broadcast of the defamatory statements made during the March 24 press conference; a perpetual injunction restraining Dr Ayine from making further similar statements; and the cost of the legal action, including attorney fees.

Under court rules, Dr Ayine has eight days from the date of service to respond to the suit. Should he fail to do so, the court may issue a default judgment in favour of the plaintiffs.

Kwabena Adu-Boahen was arrested by officials from the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) on Thursday, March 20, 2025, in connection with an alleged financial scandal involving a $7 million cyber defense system contract.

On Friday, March 28, 2025, an Accra High Court reduced the bail conditions for the former Signals Bureau Director from GH¢120 million to GH¢80 million, with two sureties, one of whom must be justified.

The court also ordered that the passports of Adu-Boahen and his wife remain with EOCO, and any travel must receive express permission from the agency.
