Nana Amanpene Boateng II, Chief of Nyinahin in the Atwima Mponua District, has called on the Ghana Police Service to conduct a thorough investigation into the killing of an innocent civilian by a military officer at Nyinahin and bring the perpetrator to face justice.

He said every Ghanaian was under the rule of law, and nobody whether in uniform, should be allowed to take the law into their hands to kill innocent people and go scot-free.

Speaking during a courtesy call on him by a delegation of the Ghana Police Service led by DCOP Mr Emmanuel Teye-Cudjoe, Ashanti Regional Police Commander, he pointed out that the unfortunate incident was a deliberate act of the officer involved.

Also at the meeting was Mr Seth Osei Akoto, Member of Parliament for Atwima Mponua and other senior Police officers.

Nana Amanpene Boateng said the harmless young people, who were going to bury their dead colleague, were not in any conflict with the law, to demand such atrocities from the military officers.

The armed soldiers were said to have attacked the young mourners on the outskirts of Nyinahin when they were on their way to the cemetery to bury their friend.

According to an eyewitness report to the Police, the armed soldiers, who were in a military vehicle, suddenly stopped when they spotted one of the mourners wearing a military uniform.

One of the soldiers attempted to remove the uniform and this brought a confrontation between the youth and the officers.

In the ensuing confrontation, one of the soldiers fired a gunshot, killing one of the youth instantly.

Three others were severely injured in the process.

DCOP Teye-Cudjoe, the Ashanti Regional Police Commander, in response to the appeal by the chief, said the Police would go all out to ensure that justice was served.

He said the Police would deal with the perpetrator as an individual, who had committed a crime and not the military as an institution.

Mr Teye-Cudjoe called for calm as the Police continued their investigations into the matter.
