‘We will fish him out’ – DCOP Teye-Cudjoe vows to arrest soldier behind Nyinahin shooting

The Ashanti Regional Police Commander, DCOP Emmanuel Teye-Cudjoe, has vowed to fish out the military personnel who allegedly shot at civilians at Nyinahin in a fatal clash.

The clash, which left one civilian dead and three others injured at Nyinahin in the Ashanti Region, has sparked outrage, prompting a strong response from the regional police command.

During a visit to the community, DCOP Teye-Cudjoe described the incident as a crime and pledged to bring the military personnel allegedly involved in the shooting to justice.

The deadly confrontation, which occurred between the military and a group of mourners, has intensified concerns about the use of force by uniformed officers.

DCOP Teye-Cudjoe stated that the actions of one soldier should not tarnish the image of the entire Ghana Armed Forces.

He assured the public that the police are working impartially to identify and apprehend those responsible.

“We will do everything in our power to bring the perpetrators to justice. Apart from ensuring that justice is served, with the collaboration of the military, we will make sure we bring the culprit to book.

“He is an individual who committed this criminal act, and we will fish him out. We want to assure the people of Nyinahin that we will go all out and make sure that justice is served,” he said.

Meanwhile, some of the victims who sustained injuries have been speaking to JoyNews correspondent Nana Boakye Yiadom.

“I got hurt on my hands, and the little money I had, I used to treat myself, so I don’t have any money left. Any help the government or police can offer me so that I can go back to work would be very helpful.”

The Chief of the area, Nana Amapene Boateng Twum II, has also expressed worry about the incident. He said the actions of the military have left the community in fear.

“We are pleading with the police to look into this issue. The culprit must be punished. We are all under the law; no one is above it. Even if there was provocation, you are not supposed to shoot a person. This case is serious, so I am pleading with the police to investigate and bring the culprit to book.”

Meanwhile, the Member of Parliament for the Atwima Mponua constituency, Seth Osei Akoto, has assured residents that the perpetrators will be brought to justice.

“The incident has happened, and we want to use this occasion to plead with all the people of Nyinahin to remain calm.

“I, the chief, and the regional commander have promised to follow up on the incident and bring the perpetrators to book. As I’ve already indicated, we will ensure that justice is served. So we are appealing to the whole community to stay calm.”
