Former Vice President and New Patriotic Party (NPP) Presidential Candidate for the 2024 elections, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has expressed disappointment over how internal divisions within the party were exploited by the opposition during the last election campaign.

Addressing party stakeholders in Takoradi on Saturday at the start of his national Thank You Tour, Dr. Bawumia reflected on how public criticism from some NPP members was seized upon by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to weaken the party’s electoral fortunes.

“Unity is key in every group endeavour, but for the 2024 Elections, we faced the issue internal issues,” he said.

He explained that, “Some of our own members attacked the party and government publicly, and our opponents, the NDC, played back these words by our members against us through a series of adverts in the media.”

“They used the words against us, and if the attack is coming from your members, you can imagine the effect,” he added.

Dr. Bawumia stressed the importance of fostering unity within the NPP, warning that if internal squabbles are not addressed, they will continue to undermine the party’s progress.
