The Ghana Union Movement (GUM) has categorically distanced itself from an intended demonstration against the suspension of the Chief Justice, clarifying that the party neither supports the protest nor authorized any member to represent its interests in such activities.
Speaking in an interview with 3news.com, Anthony Arhinful, the General Secretary of GUM, emphasized, “The Ghana Union Movement does not support the intended demonstration against the suspension of the Chief Justice.”
He further explained that GUM believes President John Dramani Mahama acted within the confines of the Constitution regarding the Chief Justice’s suspension.
“Ghana Union Movement believes the president is acting purely on the constitutional dictates and has not erred,” Arhinful stated, reinforcing the party’s trust in the rule of law and the legal framework of the country.
Addressing claims that a GUM official was involved in the planning of the protest, Arhinful clarified that their Communication Officer, Frank Owusu Frimpong, was invited in his personal capacity by the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), not as an official representative of GUM.

“Our communication officer (Frank Owusu Frimpong) was only invited by the LPG to attend a meeting in his personal capacity. GUM was never invited officially to any meeting,” Arhinful explained. “They called him in his personal capacity,” he reiterated, urging the public not to misconstrue Frimpong’s personal attendance as GUM’s endorsement of the demonstration.
A disclaimer issued by the party earlier on April 26, 2025, stressed that GUM remains committed to democracy and the rule of law and called on all its members to abstain from participating in any protest related to the Chief Justice’s removal.
GUM concluded by urging the media and the public to disregard any reports linking the party to the protest, describing such information as “of no legitimate value.”
