Founding President of IMANI Africa, Franklin Cudjoe, has weighed in on former Vice President and NPP’s 2024 flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s recent acknowledgment about the cause of the party’s defeat.
Speaking at the auditorium of Takoradi Technical University during the launch of his nationwide Thank You Tour on Saturday, April 26, Dr. Bawumia cited a combination of internal and external factors that led to the defeat.
He explained that multiple challenges, including economic hardships, poor internal management, and unpopular government decisions and arrogance of power, created widespread dissatisfaction among Ghanaians.
He particularly pointed to the impact of the high cost of living, the refusal to reshuffle government officials, the controversial E-Levy, and the government’s decision to implement the Domestic Debt Exchange Programme (DDEP) under the IMF debt restructuring plan.
Reacting to this in a social media post on Sunday, April 27, the policy advisor and good governance advocate noted that the admission should have come much earlier.
According to him, this would have made the historic defeat the party suffered in the last election less severe than the 1.7 million votes gap in the presidential elections.
“Finally, the scales of self-denial have fallen off! I think it is appropriate to add that you brought this upon yourself. If you had admitted this basic fact as the Asantehene and I repeatedly advised you to do during the campaign, the voter beating would have been a bit humane.
“Next time, please man up and speak up. That’s leadership, not coming to ‘confess’ after glaring facts that caused so many a livelihood and death. I guess this ends the importance placed on the vaunted Mike Mike Gabo Oquaye report! What a waste of time!” his post read.
