The Afetsi Awoonor Foundation, a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), has donated diapers, wipes, detergents, and sanitary materials to support mothers and newborns at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.

The initiative aligns with the foundation’s broader mission to enhance healthcare infrastructure, particularly in rural communities where access to basic medical resources remains limited.

The organisation has prioritised equipping health facilities with the necessary tools to combat maternal and infant mortality rates.

Co-founder, Adaku Ufere Awoonor, said, “As a mother, diapers were my headache, and we believe these items will enable these mothers to have a soft start with the journey ahead of them.”

She further emphasised that “if the conditions in our hospitals are improved, we will be able to reduce child mortality.”

The foundation has identified the Volta Region as a key focus area, where many rural communities lack adequate healthcare resources. Beyond immediate donations, the organisation plans to implement long-term solutions, including funding medical equipment for underserved health centres.

The Korle-Bu donation underscores the foundation’s role as a vital partner in Ghana’s development landscape. Hospital administrators expressed gratitude for the contribution, noting its immediate benefits for new mothers and their infants.

The Afetsi Awoonor Foundation empowers youth and children through skills development, talent nurturing and personal growth, fostering self-sufficiency and a strong sense of responsibility toward community development.

Over the years, the foundation has impacted communities through donations to the vulnerable, provision of solar-powered boreholes, supply of hospital consumables, youth mentorship, football tournaments, and business funding, among many interventions.

Looking ahead, the foundation plans to expand its outreach programmes while advocating for stronger collaborations between private organisations and public health institutions.
