Bawumia will have no message if he is presented again as NPP flagbearer — Edudzi Tamakloe

Godwin Edudzi Tamakloe, Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), has shared his views on the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) chances in the next elections.

He said the opposition party is preparing to bring back its 2024 flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

According to him, this move will be politically unprofitable as the former Vice President would have no compelling message for Ghanaians.

“I am happy that the NPP is preparing to bring Bawumia back. I am happy with that posturing because what is he coming to tell the people again?” he quizzed while speaking on Accra-based TV3’s New Day show on Monday, April 28.

Mr. Tamakloe said the Mahama-led administration has been delivering on several promises including abolishing some taxes and stabilizing the cedi.

He argued that these achievements would boost the ruling party’s chances in the next elections, thereby reducing the NPP’s prospects for a comeback.

“As the chair of the Economic Management Team, they made a mistake in introducing the e-levy. President Mahama has abolished the e-levy. President Mahama has abolished the betting tax. What are you going to say again?” he stated.

“And thankfully, by the grace of the Almighty God, President Mahama is so focused. Look at the budget he introduced this year. The budget had grown so much stability, I was afraid that the cedi, once again, would behave like a bull in a china shop. But look at the relative stability it has achieved,” he added.
