The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced that passport applications that commenced under the old biometric system must be completed within 90 days, following the country’s transition to a new chip-embedded passport system.
In a press statement issued on Tuesday, the Ministry stated that the move is to facilitate a smooth and timely transition to the new passport regime while ensuring no applicant is left behind in the process.
According to the Ministry, about 30,000 applications are still in the old system, with 7,900 of them being paid but incomplete. Affected applicants have been assured they will not be charged again to complete their submissions.
It noted, “Applicants with incomplete records have been directed to visit the new passport portal at passport.mfa.gov.gh and follow the prompt to complete their application process.”
The Ministry further advised applicants with scheduled appointments under the old system to proceed to the Passport Application Center’s on their assigned dates for biometric capture.
“Applicants who missed their appointments on April 28 and 29 are advised to visit the respective Passport Application Center’s for further processing,” it added.
According to the statement, the public may call the Ministry’s 24-hour hotline at 0302-754-200 for more information or assistance.
