Assembly Member supports Chiana Health Center and Schools; appeals for broader community development support

The Assembly Member for the Alonia/Asunia Electoral Area in the Kassena-Nankana West District of the Upper East Region, Hon. Bagoni Robert Wejegedam Nawurah, has extended support to the Chiana Health Center by donating streetlight bulbs to improve the facility’s lighting, particularly at night.

This intervention comes in response to over two years of inadequate lighting and persistent darkness at the health center. “I successfully secured some streetlights for the health center in my area to provide safety and accessibility,” he stated.

Hon. Robert also extended support to several basic schools in the area by providing learning materials for students, especially those whose parents cannot afford essential supplies. “I provided writing materials like pens, etc., to support the BECE final-year students in my electoral area,” he indicated.

In addition to education and healthcare, the Assembly Member has been actively promoting sanitation and environmental hygiene within his jurisdiction. He expressed concern about the sanitation challenges in Chiana Township, emphasising the need for consistent attention. To address this, he has been organising regular clean-up exercises.

He cited a specific case where the community’s refuse dump, located near a mosque, posed health and comfort issues for worshippers. “The refuse dump site is closer to the mosque where the Muslims pray, so I organised some residents to help clean the place because it’s too filthy and uncomfortable,” he said.

In a heartfelt appeal, Hon. Nawurah called for broader support from the public to address ongoing developmental challenges in the area, including poor road networks, inadequate street lighting, and rising unemployment.
