The 2004 year group of Wesley Girls’ High School (“WGHS”) officially launched their fundraising efforts for the 2026 Speech Day and Legacy Project on April 23, 2025, at the Coconut Grove Regency Hotel. A key highlight of the event was the unveiling of their Year Group Patron. In the lead-up to the launch, a vibrant social media campaign engaged stakeholders with teasers about the Patron’s identity, building excitement and anticipation.
The launch was graced by a host of distinguished guests, while those unable to attend showed their solidarity through generous donations. Notable personalities included Mr. Nana Sarfo, CEO of Bora Capital Advisors; Ms. Perpetual Ofori-Ampofo, President of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA); Ms. Freda Donkor, CEO of FH Depot Company Ltd; Mr. Yaw Ackonor, Petroleum Engineer at GNPC; Honourable Hassan Tampuli, MP for Gushiegu; Dr. Richard Yeboah Asante, CEO of Afrah International Hospital, Iflyt Limited, and Watford Energy; Dr. Esi Ansah, Executive Director of Ashesi’s Center for Leadership and member of the Constitutional Review Committee; and Mr. Charles Owusu Ansah, CEO of Charusa Ltd.
In a beautiful show of unity and solidarity, several other WGHS year groups lent their support, including the classes of 1964, 1974, 1984, 1994, 2002, 2003, 2005, and 2014. Mfantsipim School, Mfantsiman Girls’ Senior High School, and Achimota School were also graciously represented to support WGHS 2004.
Wesley Girls’ High School’s annual Speech Day is a celebrated tradition—an occasion that lights up Cape Coast and dominates social media, bathing it in vibrant yellow and green. Each year, a leading year group takes up the mantle to host the celebration, supported by others. For 2026, the baton has been proudly passed to the 2004 year group, who—along with their supporting year groups—have embraced the name “Fantastic Fours” and the rallying theme “FOURtified, Unstoppable Together.”
At the heart of this dynamic team is their Patron, Madam Araba Botchway (née Middleton-Mends), a proud alumna of the WGHS Class of 1984 and current President of the 1984 Year Group. She serves as Director of Admissions and Financial Aid at Ashesi University and leads the Mastercard Scholars Program. With over two decades of leadership in education and youth development, Madam Botchway epitomizes the values of excellence, impact, and unwavering commitment to success.
The Fantastic Fours are not only planning a memorable celebration but are also championing a transformative Legacy Project: furnishing the first floor of a new Resource Centre for Wesley Girls’ High School. This forward-looking initiative will significantly enhance teaching and learning experiences, creating an environment that fosters innovation, collaboration, and excellence for generations to come.
To achieve their vision, the group is seeking to raise a minimum of GHS 2 million, with a stretch goal of GHS 4 million, to fund both the Legacy Project and the grand celebration that the WGHS community eagerly anticipates.
