To Kwasi Twum (founder of Joy FM) and the entire Joy FM family
Happy 30th Anniversary! Today, we honour three remarkable decades of a media institution that has shaped Ghana’s airwaves and touched countless lives with truth, creativity, and connection.
Kwasi Twum, your visionary leadership in 1994 birthed more than a radio station—it sparked a movement. Thank you for the privilege of leading this extraordinary station as General Manager from 2000 to 2003. Your mentorship, wisdom, and unwavering belief in the power of media have guided me—and so many others—through the years.
To my colleagues and the phenomenal Joy FM team—producers, presenters, journalists, and especially the unsung heroes behind the scenes: the engineers and technicians—you are the pulse of this station. For 30 years, your brilliance has ensured seamless connectivity, crystal-clear sound, and an unbreakable bond with audiences across airwaves, online platforms, and beyond. You are the backbone of this legacy.
Together, we’ve navigated technological revolutions, weathered storms, and championed stories that matter. From analogue to digital, from FM dials to viral tweets, Joy FM has evolved without ever losing its soul. That enduring spirit is thanks to every individual who walked through its doors with passion and purpose.
As we celebrate 30 years, let’s remember: Joy 99.7FM is more than a frequency—it’s a family, a voice for the voiceless, and a beacon of hope. May the next 30 years be even bolder, louder, and brighter.
With deep pride and gratitude,
Kenneth Ashigbey
Former Chief Technology Officer & General Manager, Joy FM (2000–2003)
