Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has accepted an invitation from the Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Mr. Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, to lead officers of the Ghana Police Service in the May Day Evening Walk and Workout set for Thursday, May 1, 2025.

The IGP also confirmed he will attend the highly anticipated Ghana Premier League clash between Accra Hearts of Oak and Kumasi Asante Kotoko at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday, May 4, 2025.

This was announced during a courtesy visit to the Police Headquarters by the NSA Director General and his delegation on Wednesday, April 30, 2025. The visit aimed to deepen cooperation between the NSA and the Police through sports and fitness initiatives.

During the engagement, Mr. Yohuno introduced members of the Police Management Board (POMAB), who highlighted the Service’s contributions to sports. DCOP Lydia Donkor of the CID praised the Police Ladies football team and called for a revival of the Security Services Sports Association (SESSA) Games. COP Iddi Seidu, POMAB member in charge of welfare, supported the idea and also advocated for the recruitment of sporting talent into the Service.

Mr. Ampofo Ankrah commended the Ghana Police Service for its ongoing support for football and for enhancing security at league venues. He echoed support for reviving the SESSA Games, stressing its importance in talent development within the security services.

The IGP, in his closing remarks, reaffirmed his commitment to promoting wellness within the Police and proposed a quarterly fitness day for personnel. He confirmed his participation in both the May Day fitness event and the Hearts vs Kotoko game.

Issued by the Public Relations Unit, National Sports Authority.
