Greater Accra NDC organisers demand promised appointments at NADMO

A group of constituency organisers from the Greater Accra Regional branch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has voiced deep frustration over what they describe as a betrayal by party leadership and Members of Parliament in the region.

Speaking at a press conference, spokesperson Gad Nene Ackwerh said the organisers had played a critical role in securing a historic win for the party in the December 2024 elections.

Their efforts, he emphasised, led to an increase in parliamentary seats from 20 to 31 and a strong voter turnout for then-candidate John Dramani Mahama, who now serves as President.

According to Ackwerh, organisers were promised appointments, particularly in the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), as a reward for their work.

However, they have since learned that MPs in the region have been given control over NADMO appointments, leaving the organisers sidelined.

“This is a complete reversal of what we were promised. We feel betrayed,” Ackwerh stated.

He added that some organisers were being disqualified on discriminatory grounds, such as not having university degrees, calling it an “insult” to their commitment and contributions.

Quoting the Ghanaian proverb, “Monkey dey work, baboon dey chop,” Ackwerh warned that continued neglect of party grassroots could create unnecessary tensions that may harm the NDC’s unity and future prospects.

The organisers are calling on President Mahama, the national leadership, and the Greater Accra Regional executives to intervene and honor the assurances given to them.
