STC takes steps to repossess landed property in Kumasi rented to private individual

The Inter-City STC Coaches Limited (TC) is taking steps to repossess a bungalow and landed property in Kumasi leased to a private individual for 50 years.

The bungalow, situated on prime land in the Oforikrom Municipality, was initially accommodating STC guests and officers visiting the city, to save the company some cost.

However, the facility was abandoned and later given out to the hotel owner, under an agreement that the STC bungalow would be demolished and redeveloped into a hotel.

Deputy Managing Director of STC, Nuru Hamidan, after a tour of the facility, told Adom News he is dissatisfied with how the previous government handled the property.

“The past administration gave the entire structure for a 50-year rent to redevelop it into a hotel,” he said, emphasizing that the STC’s mandate is to run transport services, not to give away government properties on rent.

Nuru Hamidan noted there are ongoing negotiations with the private individual to repossess the property to serve its original purpose.

He also observed that about two-thirds of STC’s 22.68 acres of land had been encroached upon by permanent and temporary structures.

The company intends to take action to halt the trend.
