Press Statement from the Secretariat of the Progressive Alliance for Ghana (PAG) on the petitions against the Chief Justice

May 9, 2025 – For the last few weeks, Ghana has been embroiled in the aftermath of citizens’ petitions calling for the removal of the current Chief Justice.

The Progressive Alliance for Ghana (PAG) is concerned that the ensuing investigations remain fair and just for all involved parties. The country deserves no less.

PAG does not consider this a partisan political matter and we stand firmly behind the constitution as it is currently structured, for that is the law of the land.

It appears that a procedural matter is being politicized by sectors of the society closely aligned with the leading opposition party, the NPP. It is important to note that both the NPP and NDC should respect the rule of law and should not choose to be selective in being critical in only matters that they perceive to affect them. Ghanaians are tired of the hypocritical double standards that come into play when important issues arise.

PAG recognizes this as a purely administrative and procedural matter. Everyone involved, the Chief Justice included, is entitled to due process in ensuring that the final outcome is fair and just.

PAG reiterates that this is not a partisan political issue but a matter of adhering to the requirements of the constitution, for that is the law of the land. We recognize that the constitution is not perfect, and along with many Ghanaians, we look forward to a thorough review of the constitution which has been enforced since 1992. It’s implementation over this period, has revealed many potential areas of improvement that most Ghanaians agree upon.

This is what nation building is about. Ghana is bigger than NDC or NPP. PAG puts the welfare of the nation first. Let us be a nation guided by truth, recognizing that no one is above the law and the need to build for future generations. We should always seek to improve our nation for the benefit of the broad masses.

Forward Together!
