The Assembly Members of Jomoro Municipality in the Western Region have overwhelmingly confirmed the Assembly Member for the Nawule electoral area, Benedict Boadi, as the Jomoro Municipal Chief Executive (MCE).
He was nominated by President John Dramani Mahama on Friday, April 4, 2025.
The confirmation, originally scheduled for Monday, April 28, 2025, was postponed to Thursday, May 8, 2025, due to the untimely deaths of Elubo West Assembly Member Ransford Nana Otu Darko and Alaboale Assembly Member Francis Armoh, who passed away on Saturday, April 26, 2025.
In an election conducted by officials from the Jomoro Municipal Electoral Commission at the Jomoro Municipal Assembly Hall, Benedict Boadi received 45 “YES” votes, representing 98%, compared to 1 “NO” vote.
His victory was described as unprecedented and historic.
Benedict Boadi is the current Jomoro NDC Constituency Organizer.
In his acceptance remarks, Benedict Boadi thanked the Almighty God for protecting him throughout his journey to becoming the Jomoro MCE.
He also expressed appreciation to President John Dramani Mahama for placing his trust in him.
He further thanked the Member of Parliament for the area, Dorcas Afo Toffey, Western Regional Minister Joseph Nelson, assembly members, chiefs, religious leaders, and some MMDCEs for their support and trust.
“I would like to respectfully extend my heartfelt gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama for the honor, as well as to the Western Regional Minister, my beloved mother, the Jomoro MP, Dorcas Afo Toffey, my colleague MMDCEs—particularly those from Ellembelle, Ahanta West, Nzema East, and Amenfi West—for their presence and unwavering support during my confirmation,” he acknowledged.
“In the same spirit, I wish to express my special appreciation to the respected Assembly Members for their massive endorsement, making me the first in history to secure such a remarkable approval rate of 98%,” he added.
He also thanked the good people of Jomoro and the rank-and-file of the Jomoro NDC for their support.
He pledged his total commitment to driving development in the municipality in the best interest of its people.
“My resounding victory and endorsement mark the dawn of a new and transformative chapter in the development journey of the Jomoro Municipality. I remain fully committed to addressing the pressing challenges confronting our municipality and will not relent in my efforts until Jomoro achieves the meaningful progress it rightfully deserves,” he stated.
The new MCE also expressed concern over the poor condition of roads, especially the Samenye barrier to Half Assini to New Town road network, which recently claimed the lives of two gallant assembly members in the municipality. He promised to work closely with the MP and his government to tackle these bad roads in the area.
He further pledged to liaise with the Ministry of Energy to extend electricity to communities that need it, in order to improve academic performance and protect lives.
He declared his full support for the construction of the Petroleum Hub Development Corporation in the area, describing the project as a game-changer.
He urged the people of Jomoro to rally behind the government to establish the hub in the area, which would create direct and indirect jobs for the youth, especially in Jomoro.
“In fact, the Petroleum Hub Development Corporation will be a game-changer when completed. It will also be a transformative national project, and I support it 100%. I therefore call on the good people of Jomoro to support the project,” he stated.
He promised to work closely with the assembly members, regardless of their political backgrounds, to accelerate development in the municipality.
He also called on the people of Jomoro to rally behind him in prayers to gain the strength and wisdom needed to develop the municipality.
The Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, Dorcas Afo Toffey, thanked the assembly members for endorsing the President’s nominee.
She expressed sorrow over the death of the two assembly members and pledged to help ensure that assembly members stop using motorbikes for their official duties.
She promised to support Benedict Boadi to succeed as the Jomoro MCE.
Joseph Nelson, the Western Regional Minister, commended the assembly members and urged the people of Jomoro to rally behind the MCE in all aspects.
On the same day, Francis Kennedy Yankey was elected as the Presiding Member (PM) for the assembly. He polled 42 “YES” votes out of 46 votes cast.
Fifteen (15) government appointees were sworn in as part of the assembly.
The colorful ceremony was graced by the Western Regional Minister, Joseph Nelson, former CDS General Peter Augustine Blay, Western Regional National Security Coordinator Brigadier Musah Whajah (RTD), NDC Western Regional Vice Chairman and board member of Ghana Gas, Kwame Borlu, Jomoro MP Dorcas Afo Toffey, Ellembelle DCE, Nzema East MCE, Ahanta West MCE, Amenfi West MCE, Ezilinbo Chief, among others.
