Half of the money we spend on philanthropy can buy two private jets a year — KGL Group Chairman

The Executive Chairman of the KGL Group, Alex Apau Dadey, says his greatest satisfaction in life comes from positively impacting others—not from acquiring material wealth.

He revealed that half of the money his company spends annually on philanthropy could purchase two private jets, but they choose to focus on giving back to society instead.

Speaking on Starr Chat with Bola Ray, Mr. Apau Dadey explained that while he may occasionally need a private jet, he prefers to lease rather than own one.

“The greatest satisfaction I have is in the lives we’ve changed, not the physical and material things we own. When I was younger, I might have chased those things, but as I’ve grown older, private jets and such no longer interest me,” he said.

“Half of the money we spend on philanthropy could probably buy two private jets a year,” he added.

He noted that although he owns a few luxury cars, they are rarely used—sometimes only once or twice a year—emphasising that owning such assets doesn’t hold the same value to him anymore.

“Yes, you might need a private jet at certain times, but you can lease one when necessary. It’s all about priorities,” he said.

Reflecting on his life experiences abroad, he added: “Where I’ve lived most of my life, people even leave their money to dog shelters. So I ask myself, what do you want to do with all the wealth? To me, it makes sense to give back—it shows the humanity in us.”
