The Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), Sammy Gyamfi, has addressed a wave of public criticism following what he described as a private act of kindness that unexpectedly surfaced in the public domain.

A recent video circulating online captures a brief interaction between Sammy Gyamfi and former fetish priestess turned evangelist, Patricia Oduro Koranteng, widely known as Nana Agradaa..

In the footage, Agradaa is heard requesting some US dollar notes from Mr Gyamfi’s vehicle.

Moments later, the Acting CEO is seen counting several dollar bills, which Agradaa subsequently snatches and displays to nearby onlookers.

Taking to social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Mr Gyamfi sought to clarify the circumstances surrounding the gesture that has triggered backlash in the last 24 hours.

In his statement, he explained that the act was in keeping with his “daily and life-long custom of lending a helping hand to people in need.”

Folks, I have taken notice of the wave of criticisms against my person in the last 24 hours.

To clarify, this was simply a kind gesture to a fellow human being, in line with my daily and life-long custom of lending a helping hand to people in need.

I sincerely thought that I…

“I sincerely thought that I was doing this act of kindness in private and never imagined that same could find its way into the public space. That is unfortunate and regrettable,” he wrote.

Acknowledging the disapproval from some quarters, including his own political allies, Mr Gyamfi offered a heartfelt apology.

“I understand the uproar that this gesture has generated, particularly from comrades who are sincerely hurt by same. To all such comrades, I AM SINCERELY SORRY for this unfortunate act of indiscretion. I respect and appreciate your views,” he stated.

Mr Gyamfi also extended gratitude to those who had reached out with support and encouragement, noting their solidarity during what he described as a difficult moment.

Reaffirming his commitment to public service, Mr Gyamfi emphasised that his understanding of public office remains unchanged.

“My view of public office as a privilege to serve society, solve problems and help others has not changed,” he affirmed.

He concluded his message by wishing Ghanaians a restful Sunday and extended Mother’s Day greetings.

“Stay blessed and have a blissful Sunday. Happy Mother’s Day to all the mothers out here.”
