Sammy Gyamfi didn’t intend to flaunt money; he was being harassed by Agradaa — Beatrice Annan

A Presidential Staffer, Beatrice Annan, says the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board, Sammy Gyamfi, never intended to flaunt money in public during his interaction with self-styled evangelist Patricia Asiedu, widely known as Agradaa.

Speaking on Accra-based Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana on Monday, May 12, the NDC communicator said Sammy Gyamfi was being harassed by Agradaa in the viral video and gave in after persistent pressure.

“Sammy Gyamfi never intended to flaunt dollars in public or to show off. In the video, it’s clear the woman was practically harassing him for money, and even before he could give it out, she snatched it from him,” she explained.

Beatrice Annan commended Gyamfi’s apology, describing it as a show of maturity rarely seen in public officials.

“Sammy Gyamfi has demonstrated a lot of maturity. When was the last time you heard a public official come out to say, ‘I am sorry for an indiscretion’?

“When something happens, many just deny it outright or offer all sorts of excuses. Sammy has admitted it was a total indiscretion. There’s no need to belabour the point,” she said.

The comment comes after a viral video surfaced showing the National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) handing an undisclosed amount of cash to the former fetish priestess.

The act has drawn public outrage and criticism, including from within his own party.

In response to the backlash, Sammy Gyamfi issued an unqualified apology on Sunday, May 11, calling his action an “unfortunate act of indiscretion.”

“I understand the uproar that this gesture has generated, particularly from comrades who are sincerely hurt by same. To all such comrades, I AM SINCERELY SORRY for this unfortunate act of indiscretion. I respect and appreciate your views,” he stated.
