Punish Sammy Gyamfi over dollar gift to Agradaa and set him as an example — Effah Dartey to Mahama

Ghanaian politician and private legal practitioner, Captain (Rtd) Nkrabea Effah Dartey, has called on President John Dramani Mahama to punish the CEO of the Ghana Gold Board, Sammy Gyamfi, over a dollar gift he gave to self-styled evangelist, Nana Agradaa.

His call follows a viral video that captured Sammy Gyamfi handing over an undisclosed amount of cash to the former fetish priestess.

The act has drawn widespread criticism, including from within the National Democratic Congress (NDC), where Gyamfi serves as National Communications Officer.

Effah Dartey believes the incident is a test of the President’s commitment to the recently launched Code of Conduct for appointees.

Speaking on Accra-based Adom FM on Monday, May 12, the lawyer asserted that failure to act would suggest the policy is a mere formality.

“Sammy Gyamfi wants to test the President on the Code of Conduct and find out whether he was serious in his campaign or it’s a nine-day wonder or a mere joke,” he said.

“Because anyone who hears this will know that Sammy Gyamfi’s action is not the best. So the President must punish him and set him as an example.”

He added, “Considering his role in the NDC and his scale of importance, whether the President will act is another thing altogether. If the President fails, then clearly the Code of Conduct is just paper policy and paper laws. It will mean he is not serious. I may be wrong, and if I am wrong, then I’m sorry.”

However, speaking on TV3’s New Day on Monday, May 12, a member of the NDC legal team, Edudzi Tamakloe, defended Gyamfi, stating that the Code of Conduct only addresses the receiving of gifts and not the giving.
