Joana Gyan Cudjoe, the Member of Parliament for Amenfi Central in the Western Region, has called on miners in the area to form a unified association aimed at fostering unity and driving collective development.

Addressing miners at a stakeholder engagement forum, Joanna Gyan Cudjoe reaffirmed her commitment to safeguarding the interests of miners in the district.

She pledged to ensure that mining activities are conducted responsibly and with security for all involved as long as she serves as MP.

She also shed light on the pressing developmental challenges confronting Amenfi Central, including poor road infrastructure, weak communication networks, inadequate access to clean drinking water, and limited rural electrification.

According to her, these issues significantly impede the district’s growth and affect residents’ quality of life.

The MP emphasised the district’s wealth in gold resources and stressed the importance of harnessing these assets through sustainable and responsible mining.

She believes that by organising under a common association and operating responsibly, miners can generate funds to support local infrastructure and development projects, thereby reducing the district’s dependence on central government support.

Joanna Gyan Cudjoe further urged miners, particularly those involved in illegal mining, to heed the call of President John Dramani Mahama and transition to lawful and sustainable mining practices.

This shift, she noted, would not only protect them from legal challenges but also position them as key contributors to the district’s transformation.

Her appeal for unity and responsible practices among miners marks a strategic move toward inclusive development, with the potential to unlock long-term prosperity for Amenfi Central and its people.
