NPP lacks moral high ground to demand Gyamfi’s suspension — Edudzi

Acting Chief Executive of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Godwin Edudzi Tamakloe, has criticised the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) for demanding the suspension of Sammy Gyamfi, the Acting CEO of the Ghana Gold Board, following a controversial dollar gift incident.

The controversy arose after a viral video showed Gyamfi handing over bundles of U.S. dollar notes to Patricia Asiedua, popularly known as Nana Agradaa, a former fetish priestess-turned-evangelist.

The gesture has sparked widespread public criticism, with civil society groups and political opponents calling it inappropriate and indicative of poor judgment.

In response to the backlash, Gyamfi issued a public apology, describing the act as a lapse in judgment and expressing sincere remorse.

Speaking on Face to Face with Umaru Sanda Amadu on Channel One TV on Tuesday, May 13, Mr. Tamakloe firmly rejected calls for Gyamfi’s suspension and accused the NPP of lacking moral consistency.

“I think the NPP is not a standard; they have lowered the bar, and so, the respect that I have for the people of this country, I do not want to move into any realms of equalisation, that Kojo did that in the past,” Tamakloe said.

He reaffirmed support for Gyamfi’s apology, extending a further expression of regret on behalf of the party.

“My brother has apologised and we stand by the apology. And with all due respect to the people of Ghana, on behalf of our brother, once again, I say we sincerely apologise,” he stated.

Mr. Tamakloe also noted that the incident should serve as a broader lesson for politicians, reinforcing the need for mindfulness in public conduct.
