Rockson Dafeamekpor files GHC30m defamation suit against Ntim Fordjour

The Member of Parliament for South Dayi, Rockson Nelson Dafeamekpor, has initiated a defamation lawsuit against the MP for Assin South, Rev. John Ntim Fordjour.

The legal action stems from a social media post by Rev. Ntim Fordjour that Mr. Dafeamekpor claims has caused significant damage to his reputation.

Mr. Dafeamekpor is seeking thirty million Ghana Cedis (GH¢30,000,000) in damages. He vehemently denies the claims made in Rev. Ntim Fordjour’s post on May 8, 2025, on social media platform, X. The post alleged that Mr. Dafeamekpor, who also serves as the Majority Chief Whip, was the Vice Chairman of the Committee on Subsidiary Legislation when the former National Signals Bureau boss, Kwabena Adu-Boahene, purportedly paid GH¢360,000 to the committee.

The alleged payment, according to Kwabena Adu-Boahene’s defense in a separate case regarding alleged fraudulent misappropriation of GH¢49.1 million, was part of allowances paid to MPs on the Defence and Interior Committee and the Subsidiary Legislation Committee during the passage of the NSB Act and its accompanying Legislative Instrument.

Rev. Ntim Fordjour’s social media post also called for an investigation into Mr. Dafeamekpor and others, suggesting that a probe would hold implicated individuals accountable.

In his statement of claim, Mr. Dafeamekpor categorically labels Rev. Ntim Fordjour’s allegations as “false, malicious, and defamatory.”

He asserts that the post has caused him “economic harm, loss of business, disruption to his professional activities, and extreme emotional distress.”

The lawsuit contends that the statements were made with “calculated malice” to portray him as corrupt and a bribe-taker.

Mr. Dafeamekpor is seeking a retraction and a public apology from Rev. Ntim Fordjour, alongside an interlocutory injunction to prevent the Assin South MP and his associates from publishing further defamatory statements.
