Claims NDC is uninterested in bringing back Sedinam Tamakloe problematic — Hamza

A member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) communication team, Hamza Suhuyini, has described as problematic claims that the John Mahama-led administration is not committed to bringing back former MASLOC CEO, Sedinam Tamakloe, to serve her 10-year jail sentence.

Ghanaian engineer and policy analyst, Michael Kosi Dedey, had accused the NDC government of being selective in the fight against corruption.

Speaking on Accra-based Channel One TV on Wednesday, May 14, he specifically questioned the lack of action in bringing back Sedinam Tamakloe, who was found guilty of causing financial loss to the state.

“Why hasn’t Sedinam Tamakloe, the ex-MASLOC boss found guilty of corruption, been brought to justice?” he asked.

But in response, Hamza said the claim is unfair, noting that even the previous NPP administration—which prosecuted Tamakloe—was unable to get her extradited.

“She was found guilty during the last administration. The NPP did everything within its power to secure her, but they were unsuccessful. The processes are still ongoing,” he explained.

He added that the current government cannot be accused of inaction when it also does not know her exact whereabouts.

“The NDC as a political party, or President Mahama and his government, do not know where she is. No one knows. But the processes are still ongoing to get her into the system,” he said.

Hamza further stressed that while it is legitimate to demand updates, it is unfair to suggest the government is not interested without first seeking clarification.

“It is problematic for you to conclude that the government is not interested in finding her when you have not requested any information in relation to that,” he said.

Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu and the former Chief Operating Officer of MASLOC, Daniel Axim, were found guilty on 78 counts relating to causing financial loss to the state, theft, conspiracy to steal, money laundering, and contravening public procurement laws in 2024.
