The Kaneshie District Court One has granted a GH¢70,000 bail with two sureties to a driver who allegedly knocked down and killed a pedestrian.

The plea of John Takyi was not taken as a copy of the docket has been forwarded to the Attorney General for advice.

Takyi is facing charges of careless and inconsiderate driving as well as negligently causing harm.

The Court has ordered Takyi to make his next appearance on June 25, 2025.

Giving the facts, Police Chief Inspector Achana Apewah said on May 10, 2025, at about 1930 hours, Takyi was in charge of a Kia Sorento with registration number GR 2926-21.

He went to the police station and reported that he was driving from Odorkor towards Mallam along the Dr. K.A. Busia highway.

On reaching a section of the road at Odorkor water works, he knocked down pedestrian Kojo Andoh, aged about 50, now deceased, who was crossing the road, the Court heard.

Prosecution said Andoh was rushed to Korle-bu Teaching Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival by the Medical Officer on duty.

Chief Inspector Apewah said his body was deposited at the same hospital’s mortuary for preservation and autopsy.

After investigations, Takyi was charged with the offences to appear before court.
