Meeri has threatened to amputate Vivian Jill Lawrence Meeri has threatened to amputate Vivian Jill Lawrence

A controversy has erupted in the Ahafo Ano South East Constituency following a viral WhatsApp voice note in which the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Constituency Women Organiser, identifying herself as Meeri, issued a threat against popular Ghanaian actress, Vivian Jill Lawrence.

The dispute evolves around the alleged awarding of a school feeding contract in the constituency to Vivian Jill, a decision which has incurred the anger of Meeri, who claims the process disrespects local party structures and her role as a grassroots organiser.

In the widely circulated voice note on social media platforms allegedly shared on one of the party’s WhatsApp platforms, Meeri expressed deep frustration over what she perceives as a lack of respect for NDC party hierarchy and local leadership.

She stated that she has not received an official appointment letter as the constituency women organiser, yet Vivian Jill, based in Kumasi, has allegedly been granted a contract to manage the School Feeding Programme in the Ahafo Ano South East.

“How does it happen that as the constituency women organiser, I have not received my appointment letter, but someone from Kumasi receives an appointment letter from Accra to be walking about in my constituency seeking to execute school feeding? Waalahi, it won’t happen,” Meeri declared.

Meeri also directed her anger at what she described as an unfair sidelining of local party faithful who campaigned tirelessly for the NDC.

She recounted driving to confront Vivian Jill upon picking intelligence on her presence in the constituency, only to find that the actress had left the area.

According to the NDC Women Organiser, she subsequently issued a direct threat to the actress in a phone call, daring her to go ahead and execute the contract.

“I have told Vivian Jill herself to dare come to cook if she is a woman. The very hand she intends to cook with, or the hand of whoever she will send to come and cook, she will return with amputated hands. I will personally chop off her hands, I, Meeri, said so,” she threatened.

She further stated her willingness to face legal consequences, saying, “I will chop off her hands and go to jail. I prefer just that.

“Do you think we are fools? When you finish using us to work, you begin to see us as fools. You think you are the only ones worthy of riding in cars, the only ones worthy of building houses. You want us to remain your uncivilised stooges,” she lamented, emphasising that the party belongs to all its members, not a select few.

She further accused the Ashanti Regional Women Organiser of sidestepping her to award the contract to the actress.

The School Feeding Programme, a key government initiative to provide meals to schoolchildren, has often been a contentious issue due to its economic and political significance.

Contracts for the programme are highly sought after, and their allocation have usually sparked tensions.

Meanwhile, neither Vivian Jill nor the NDC leadership has issued an official response to Meeri’s allegations or threats yet.
