A long-standing land dispute between the communities of Kogni Yapala and Janjori-Kukuo has escalated, resulting in the burning of approximately 15 houses by unknown individuals at Kogni Yapala in the Sagnarigu Municipality of the Northern Region.

According to dailyguidenetwork.com, the incident led to the destruction of homes, farm produce, motorbikes, and other properties belonging to residents of Kogni Yapala.

Osman Jato Alfred, Assemblyman for the Yilonayili-Kogni Yapala Electoral Area, confirmed the attack to Daily Guide, stating that the community is gripped by fear and panic.

He attributed the violence to the unresolved land dispute between the two communities.

Alfred further indicated that police have now taken control of Kogni Yapala to safeguard lives and properties.

He urged authorities to urgently resolve the dispute to prevent future and further attacks.

“I am appealing to the authorities to intervene and ensure that peace prevail, because three other communities are indirectly affected. I believe we don’t want to sit unconcerned for any disaster to happen,” Alfred said.
