Obuasi Area of the Church of Pentecost holds empowerment seminar for BECE candidates

The Evangelism and School Outreach Ministries of the Obuasi Area of the Church of Pentecost teamed up with the Municipal Education Directorate to organise a two-day guidance and counseling seminar for final year Junior High School students in Obuasi.

Experienced professionals were on deck to take about 3,000 students drawn from 60 public and private schools in Obuasi on career paths and their related courses, the benefits of making the right career choices, and a mental health awareness campaign.

The seminar, according to the Obuasi Area Head of the Church of Pentecost, David Kankam Beditor, was aimed at guiding the students to make the right career choices as they take a giant step towards their academic pursuits.

He said it was the right impetus the children needed as they prepare towards their Basic Education Certificate Examination.

He noted that over the years, some students have made mistakes at this level because they did not have the right guidance in making good choices.

Prophet Beditor stated that the church has a responsibility in shaping the lives of children, stressing that the Church of Pentecost is always committed through its school outreach ministry to provide the right guidance to children as they navigate through their career paths to become prominent members of the society.

While doing that, the Area Head said, they are also shaping the lives of the students to accept the word of God, live by it stressing that, it was the only way they could harness their full potentials.

This is the second time running that the church has held such an impactful seminar for BECE candidates in Obuasi.

According to the Obuasi Municipal Director of Education, George Alfred Koomson, this was commendable, adding that it lends credence to the Church’s commitment to make the society better.

Mr. Koomson said the guidance and counselling seminar was a product of painstaking research by the directorate, which identified a gap in career choices and the capabilities of the students.

“We decided to team up with the Church of Pentecost to roll out the programme, and so far, it has been impactful.”

He said they rode on the back of the success of the previous edition to continue the programme this year.

He seized the opportunity to advise parents to take interest in their children’s education and monitor them as they prepare to write their final exams.

He further admonished them to cooperate with the teachers and their wards when they choose the schools and courses for their children as they transitioned into Senior High School.

Mr Koomson said in the world of endless possibilities and opportunities, it was important for the students to navigate their career paths with clarity, purpose, and intentionality.

He called for guidance and counselling to serve as a beacon of light, shaping the students to make good choices in life.

The students who spoke with the media commended the organisers for the seminar. They admonished the government to make this a requirement in all schools.
