Ghana Water Limited (GWL) has revealed plans to enter the bottled water market to respond to changing consumer habits and create an alternative revenue stream.
Managing Director of GWL, Adam Mutawakilu, disclosed this in an interview on Accra-based TV3’s Hot Issues, which aired on Sunday, May 18.
He said the company is already producing bottled water under the brand name “G Water” but in small quantities.
“Next time when I am coming, I will bring bottled water. I’ll bring G Water. That’s what it’s called,” he said.
According to him, production currently stands at 242,000 bottles per day on a single pot line, with plans underway to test a second line.
“We have one pot line that produces about 242,000 bottles a day. That is just too small. We are testing another second pot line,” he noted.
Mr. Mutawakilu justified the decision by pointing to changing consumer behaviour and the need to diversify.
“People, even in their homes now, don’t want to drink from the tap…So it’s another market that we have to take,” he said.
