Five months in office is enough to fix dumsor – Minority tells Mahama

The Minority caucus in Parliament has urged the John Dramani Mahama-led National Democratic Congress (NDC) government to resolve the ongoing power crisis, commonly known as dumsor.

At a press conference in Parliament on Monday, May 19, Minority Chief Whip and Member of Parliament for Nsawam Adoagyiri, Frank Annoh Dompreh, criticised Energy Minister John Jinapor for failing to act decisively despite being critical when in opposition.

“People come and say, ‘what did the previous government do?’ We are out of power close to six months. Next month will be six months. Colleagues, ladies and gentlemen, let’s stop this chess game,” he said.

He insisted that five months is enough time for any serious government to take action on the country’s erratic power supply.

“It was the same John Jinapor who was the ranking member, all over the place complaining. Now he is in charge, and nothing has changed,” he added.

Mr Annoh Dompreh further stated that the former New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration ensured regular power supply through timely payments to independent power producers and effective sector management.

“When we were in power, we made sure the lights were on. Now, just five months into your term, the lights are going off and on, and your only excuse is that Ghana Water hasn’t paid? You’re in power—fix it,” he stressed.
