The Managing Director of the Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Company Limited (BOST), Afetsi Awoonor, has been honoured with the Millennium Excellence Award for Leadership in recognition of his role in Ghana’s energy sector and national development.
The award, conferred by the Millennium Excellence Foundation under the patronage of Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, was presented to him at the Manhyia Palace on Saturday, May 10.
It celebrates Awoonor’s contributions to the energy space, his entrepreneurial success, and his impact through philanthropy.
Awoonor, a former Chairman of JBW Limited—a company he founded in 2013—is widely respected across Africa’s energy and development sectors, having also held leadership positions with multinational firms operating in sub-Saharan Africa.
Beyond his professional achievements, he is the founder of the Afetsi Awoonor Foundation, which supports youth empowerment and economic self-reliance in Ghana.
He holds academic qualifications from leading institutions such as the Graduate Institute in Geneva and the French Institute of Petroleum and is known internationally as a thought leader, policy advocate, and speaker.
His work has taken him to platforms in the USA, UK, Switzerland, Kenya, and South Africa.
“Your leadership and accomplishments demonstrate your dedication to Ghana’s energy sector and social development, making you a respected figure in the business and philanthropic circles,” the Foundation’s citation noted.
