In an effort to account for his performance within his first 120 days in office, the Member of Parliament for Cape Coast North Constituency, Dr. Kwame Minta Nyarku, affectionately known as Ragga, expressed his joy at successfully renovating the Duakor Basic School despite his demanding schedule in Parliament.
He noted that the school was in a severely dilapidated condition, making its renovation an urgent priority.
Speaking on Atlantic Wave on ATL 100.5 FM on Monday, May 19, 2025, Ragga described the initial months of his term as intense, citing the volume of work related to budget presentation and approval. He disclosed that all National Democratic Congress (NDC) MPs were directed by the party to be fully present in Parliament to vote in support of government business. “Arising from this, I wasn’t visiting my constituency often. I also had to travel abroad. In all this, I was able to complete the Duakor Basic School renovation. I’m back now embarking on my ‘Thank You Tour’,” he heartily stated.
Describing the school’s previous condition, he said the leaking roof disrupted classes during rainfall, the walls were in dire need of painting, and partitions were damaged. “It was really an eyesore, and I needed to do something to help. I’m happy and proud to have been able to fix it,” he stressed.
Demonstrating his commitment to education beyond his immediate constituency, Dr. Nyarku donated 100 bags of cement, along with two axle trips of sand and stones, to OLA Training College for the construction of an infirmary. “Though not in my constituency, they reached out to my office for help, and I supported them in that regard. All these were done within my first 120 days,” he revealed.
As a former Casford Hall President and sports enthusiast, he also donated ¢20,000 to support the construction of a sports facility at the hall, reflecting his broader interest in youth and community development.
Looking ahead, he announced plans to renovate ten basic schools across the constituency. At the tertiary level, he hopes to partner with the Minister of Education to secure funding for completing the School of Business property at the University of Cape Coast, which is still at the foundational stage. At Cape Coast Technical University, efforts will be made to complete the unfinished auditorium. He also noted that the Nkamfua Vocational School is underperforming and will be a focus of future intervention.
One of the most promising updates for the constituency came with Ragga’s announcement that each MP has been allocated 10 kilometers of asphalted road. “We are to locate areas within our constituency to be targeted for that project. My targets are the Fourth Ridge area, Basakrom (where the Veep lives), Kwawprow to Ankaful road, Ankaful enclave, Dahia roads would be looked at, Pedu Estate internal roads, Arafin Guest House through Seminary, GNFS road, Akaikrom area, and Mpeasem enclave,” Ragga revealed.
He further emphasized that this initiative aligns with the president’s broader agenda to improve inner-city roads nationwide. “This was started in his term and for this year we’re given 10 kilometres to start with,” hinted Ragga.
As Dr. Nyarku continues his “Thank You Tour” and outlines his achievements and upcoming projects, the people of Cape Coast North can look forward to developments that promise to improve their quality of life in the months ahead.
