The First National Vice Chairman of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Danquah Smith-Buttey, has stirred public attention with a bold assertion that former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia lacks effective advisors.
Dr. Bawumia, the NPP’s 2024 presidential candidate, recently embarked on a Thank-You tour across the country. The initiative was intended to express appreciation to party executives, grassroots members, and the broader electorate for their support during the December 7, 2024, general elections.
However, the tour was not without controversy. One key incident arose when Dr. Bawumia publicly accused certain individuals within the party’s own administration of undermining his electoral prospects by raising petrol prices just days before the vote.
In an exclusive interview on the Hot Morning Drive show, hosted by Don Kwabena Prah on Accra-based Hot 93.9FM, Chairman Buttey expressed disappointment over the direction and outcomes of the tour.
“I don’t believe the Thank You Tour achieved its intended purpose,” he remarked, suggesting the event missed a critical opportunity to showcase the party’s accomplishments and unify its base.
Chairman Buttey further lamented the focus on internal discord rather than positive messaging. In a reflective tone, he emphasized that based on Dr. Bawumia’s own statements during the tour, he believes the former vice president is not receiving sound counsel.
The remarks have intensified discussions within the party and raised questions about strategy and unity as the NPP regroups in the post-election period.
