The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has disclosed that it does not have enough relief items to support flood victims displaced during the heavy downpour on Sunday, 18 May 2025.

According to the Deputy Director General of Protocol and Relief at NADMO, Mr Samuel Aboagye, although the organisation is always ready to serve victims with much-needed relief items, it remains constrained due to insufficient resources.

In an interview on Accra-based 3FM, Mr Samuel Aboagye said, “Our teams are on the ground to monitor the situation, and based on that—whether it is 10, 100, or 50 people who are critically affected—we will provide support to those individuals. If the resources are not adequate to serve everyone, we will request assistance from the district assemblies and head office to come to our aid. But, indeed, we do not have enough resources to help all these people when it hits us hard.”

He further urged affected individuals to exercise restraint as NADMO officials work diligently to provide the necessary support to help them recover from the trauma caused by the unexpected flood.

“Please bear with us when you don’t receive the needed relief items on time. We are managing with what we have,” he pleaded.

He added, “We had signals that we were going to get more rain than usual, so we, as an organisation, were prepared for any circumstance.”

NADMO has officially confirmed that over 3,000 people have been displaced and four people have been confirmed dead following the heavy rainstorm that hit Accra and its environs on Sunday, 18 May 2025.

“Over 3,000 residents have been displaced, with four deaths recorded so far—one from Abokobi and three from Adenta—following Sunday’s downpour.”
