Teshie Traditional Council apologizes to GARHCS, Nungua Mantse

Noble Professor Oboade Nortse King Nii Odaifio Welentsi Il is the Nungua Mantse Noble Professor Oboade Nortse King Nii Odaifio Welentsi Il is the Nungua Mantse

The Teshie Traditional Council has taken grave exception to what it described as shameful and indecent assault on the President of the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs, who doubles as the Nungua Mantse, Noble Professor Oboade Nortse King Nii Odaifio Welentsi Il, after the sitting of the Judicial Committee of the august house on Tuesday, May 13, 2025.

The Teshie Traditional Council expressed its regrets over the unfortunate incident and rendered an unqualified apology to the GARHCS and its president as well as the Nungua Traditional for the embarrassment which has put Teshie in a very bad light both at home and abroad.

This is contained in a statement issued on May 19, 2025, by the Registrar of the Teshie Traditional Council.

The statement recalled that on two occasions in the past a group styling itself as Teshie Council of Elders sponsored a conclave of Teshie Woyei to launch the same measure of scalding verbal attacks and vituperations against Henry Quartey then Minister for Greater Accra Region and Gbetsoolo Nii Ashitey Akomfra IlI Teshie Mantse during Gbemlilaa 2022 and also in the run-up to the Bloiahejuu rites in 2023 under the full glare of the Police with utmost impunity.

The statement revealed that the said Teshie Council of Elders also sponsored the under listed High Court Suits against Gbetsoolo and others seeking the very same reliefs being sought by Petitioners in Suit No. GARHC P5/2019 currently pending before the Judicial Committee of the GARHCs:

Suit No. 1065/2022.

Stephen Martey Laryea & Original Nii Martey Laryea vrs Nii Boye Kuma and Gbetsoolo Nii Ashitey Akomfra ll Suit No. GJ/0939/24 – Nii Nortey Tuarka |Il vrs Ministry of Chieftaincy & Religious Affairs & 2 others (Defendants).

Suit No. C8/02/2025 N Nortey Tuarka vrs Teshie Traditional Council & 3 others. Suit No. GJ 0047/2025 – Nuumo Badu Odaanor Odiapenser I vrs Joseph Tetteh [Registrar] and 7 Ors, We are advised by our Lawyers and verily believe same to be true that the same matter cannot be tried at the same time by two different courts and that the recusal option by the Honourable Chairman of the judicial committee was a step in the right direction.

It is also very important to place on the record that, while the instant application is pending before the Court of Law and the Chieftaincy Tribunal, Petitioners proceeded to put out the matter for trial by social media and the court of public opinion.

It stated lthat the Applicants are right and must get a favourable judgement by hook or crook or HELL TO BREAK LOSE. Therefore, May 13 incident was “malice aforethought” with several crates of eggs and rum already at hand

for the abominable act.

In the light of the foregoing, the Teshie Traditional Council finds it very regrettable that instead of condemning the unfortunate May 13 incident as a direct attack on the Judiciary and the Rule of Law in Ghana, a section of the press, content Creators and bloggers have taken advantage of the incident to rather castigate the Noble President of the Greater Accra Regional of House of Chiefs over matters totally unrelated to the issue at stake.

The Teshie Traditional Council he said hereby pledges its fullest cooperation and support to the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs and urges the august House to initiate a thorough investigation into the matter in order to bring those behind the unfortunate attacks to book.

The Council also wishes to avail itself of this unique opportunity to extend special thanks and commendations to the members of the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs for risking their lives to sit on chieftaincy cases at peanut sitting allowances just to bring sanity into Ga-Dangme chieftaincy affairs.
