GoldBod extends deadline for new gold trading license registration to June 21

The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has officially extended the deadline for transitioning to its new gold trading license regime following appeals from stakeholders.

GoldBod announced that the new deadline has been moved from May 21 to June 21, 2025.

In a press statement signed by Prince Kwame Minkah, Media Relations Officer for the Ghana Gold Board on Thursday, May 22, 2025, this extension provides temporary relief for gold dealers who currently operate under licenses issued by the now-defunct Precious Minerals Marketing Company (PMMC) or the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources. GoldBod clarified that such licenses will remain valid for purchasing and dealing in gold until the new June deadline.

However, the Board emphasized that after June 21, 2025, only businesses and individuals holding a GoldBod-issued license will be legally permitted to purchase, sell, or engage in any form of gold trading within Ghana. It added that operating with an outdated license beyond this date will constitute an offense under the Ghana Gold Board Act, 2025 (Act 1140), and violators will be subject to prosecution.

Importantly, GoldBod announced that effective immediately—May 22, 2025—the export function of all licenses issued by the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources is no longer valid. Henceforth, only GoldBod, acting as a corporate entity, is authorized to export small-scale gold from Ghana.

“The use of a license issued by the defunct PMMC and/or the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources to deal in gold is hereby prohibited beyond the new non-extendable deadline of 21st June, 2025. A breach of this directive shall constitute a punishable offense,” the statement read.

Prospective gold traders are encouraged to apply for a GoldBod license through the official website: www.goldbod.gov.gh.
