Minority NPP raises alarm over non-payment of GETFund, DACF, NHIF, other statutory funds

The Minority in Parliament has raised serious concerns about the government’s failure to release critical statutory funds, nearly six months into President John Mahama’s tenure.

They described the delay as both unlawful and damaging to the effective delivery of essential services across the country.

Speaking at a press briefing in Parliament on Thursday, Minority Chief Whip and Member of Parliament for Nsawam-Adoagyiri, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, condemned what he called a blatant disregard for Ghana’s laws. He accused the government of flouting constitutional mandates by failing to disburse key funds such as the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF), the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund), and the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF).

“This deliberate delay is not just an administrative failure but a clear breach of statutory obligations that undermines development at the grassroots level and jeopardises essential services,” Mr. Annoh-Dompreh stated.

According to the Minority, the prolonged withholding of these funds has left many local Assemblies without operational resources, disrupting educational programs, healthcare financing, and much-needed infrastructure projects in various communities.

“We demand immediate action from the government to rectify this unlawful withholding and restore the flow of resources to the intended beneficiaries,” the Minority Chief Whip added.

The Caucus cautioned that if the situation persists, they will consider all possible legal and parliamentary avenues to compel government compliance and protect the rights of citizens who depend on these statutory allocations.
