We’ve been relegated because our performances haven’t met expectations- Communications Director of Legon Cities

The Communications Director of Legon Cities, Kwame Dwomoh, has candidly admitted that his team’s relegation from the Ghana Premier League is a result of underwhelming performances on the pitch.

The club’s fate was sealed on Monday following a 4-1 defeat to Nations FC, leaving them 17th in the 18-team league.

In an interview with 3Sports, Dwomoh acknowledged the team’s shortcomings, stating, “Unfortunately, we’ve not been good enough on the pitch, that’s why we’ve been relegated. We did our best as management. Obviously, we decided to run the club along certain models.”

Dwomoh explained that the club had attempted to strengthen their squad by signing big stars, but when results didn’t improve, they shifted their strategy to blend youth with experience.

“If you look at the team at some point, we were going in for big stars. At some point as a club, we decided we will go for youth and experience. Because when we brought in the stars we were not getting results, so we decided to go in for a blend,” he added.

With three games remaining in the season, Legon Cities’ relegation has been confirmed, and they will be joined by Nsoatreman and one other club in dropping to the lower division.

The team’s inability to deliver consistent performances has ultimately led to their downfall, leaving fans and stakeholders to ponder what could have been done differently.
